The World Music Organization is dedicated to the preservation and continuation of the world's various musical traditions. Sadly, many of the classical and folk idioms of the world are on the verge of extinction due to the globalization of Western pop music. Pop music and culture certainly has it's place, but the negative effect is that the young people of the world are quickly losing interest in the music of their own cultures in favor of rock, pop, and the like. Much of the world's music is passed on from one generation to the next via oral tradition, apprenticeships, and dedicated student/teacher relationships. It is essential that the knowledge and skill be passed on to the present generation in this way, or else it will be lost forever. The sole aim of The World Music Organization is to provide the funding, inspiration, and an environment for these traditions to continue and thrive as humankind transitions into the 21st century and beyond. |
